My Marathon Experience

I ran my first full marathon last year at the Standard Chartered Marathon. In the last km, I swore to myself that I wasn't going to run another! But here I am thinking of running my next marathon in Melbourne, Australia this October. It should be a little easier with the lower humidity there :) that's what I'm hoping!

Actually the experience was a rather good one. I ran the first 10km very uncomfortably, with the need to constantly visit the loos. I drank too much before the start!
I love the atmosphere of people on the sidelines cheering the runners on! Reading the run inspirations on the back of runners tshirts kept me busy too.

I remembered really liking my run along East Coast beach. It was shady and I was happy :)
As my feet started to hurt after 35km, I always remembered Gino's advice, " Just focus on running to the next water station" That was fantastic advice!

I finished in 5hrs 50mins. Slow but I enjoyed it!

I think that good recovery practice is crucial to getting your legs back to normal asap after the marathon. I had a good sports massage a few hours after the marathon, wore my compression garment for 3 nights, did stretches and was good to go again by Wednesday, 3 days after the run.

My next run this year is at the Passion Run on June 8, 15km with my sisters. I'm doing the run clinics for the Passion Run 2008. the next one's on the first Saturday in May.

See you there :)
