Day 3 Of Sports Solutions Sports Massage Course

The participants came back today for day 3 of the Sports Massage course. They had a bit of revision on what they covered last week before Marlene showed them some new techniques.

After lunch, Marlene showed the participants how to use a trigger ball, stretch their patients, reciprocal inhibition and also some nerve stretches. You definitely don't learn all these in other Sports Massage courses!
"I'm good" Marlene tells the class
Even Gino got in the act, showing variations of how the nerve stretches can be done. This is the ulnar nerve stretch shown below.

Now, don't choke her....
Be careful where you go

The participants have their written and practical exams tomorrow. Come back to our blog and find out more. For more pictures see http://weloverunning.blogspot.sg/2013/07/bat-girls-wannabes.html.

Marlene's Kung Fu Moves

Thank you for coming back to read our updates on our Sports Massage course. Today marks the second day of our Sports Massage course. Being a Sunday, we had a slightly later start to allow our participants to sleep in a little. Please read on if you want to find out about Marlene's kung fu moves.

First up this morning was Aized teaching human anatomy with her teaching the participants about gluteus minimus, vastus intermedius and piriformis etc. Fortunately, they did not get their tongues twisted.

Now hold your horses
Hey, if you're interested in the paleo diet........
After learning more new muscle names and other anatomical terms, Aized ended the morning giving some hints for the theory exam next week.

After lunch, Marlene explained how a plane took off along with some kung fu moves thrown in......

When you take Swiss Air...........
First you claw
Then you punch
Killing him softly with her song
Well, not quite the kung fu moves you would imagine. Marlene is actually demonstrating a technique to help Wesley's tight iliopsoas (hip flexors) in the last picture

Stayed tuned for next week's course update.

1st Day Of Sports Massage Course 130713

Today's the first day of our Sports Massage / Human Anatomy course at Sports Solutions. Our participants showed up on time and eager to start.

We have among us two trained engineers, sports trainers from a medical clinic, pilates instructors, a reflexologist and a domestic helper to name some of the participants.

Participants all ears
Having taught many previous Sports Massage courses since 2004, Aized started the ball rolling with teaching the participants human anatomy. She used anatomical models, charts, pictures and stories from previous participants to impart her knowledge and explain concepts to the participants.
This is how you count your fingers
After breaking for lunch, it was Marlene's turn with the practical. After showing the participants how to drape each other (to preserve their modesty) it was time to practise. Most of the participants said it looked really easy, but it was a different story once they got started.

And this is how you choke him
Lily comparing her elbow with Marlene
Eve stressed while listening to Marlene
All hands on deck

Stayed tuned for more updates as we go on to day 2 tomorrow.

3rd Day Of Sports Massage Course

Time for day 3 of the Sports Massage course@ Sports Solutions today. All the participants today came eager to practise and learn more from Marlene.

Nicole taking detailed notes as usual

Gracie right in middle among them all

There were some new areas to cover in the morning and Marlene got the participants to change their regular practice partners so as to get a different feel instead of practising with the same person.

A different feel? Of course. All of us have different body types, play different favourite activities/ sports and hence have different imbalances in our joints, muscles etc. Think of it this way, if you play badminton or tennis regularly and you are right hand dominant, your right arm and thigh will probably be bigger and stronger than your left. Each and everyone of us will have a slightly stronger dominant hand or foot and probably a slightly longer limb on one side too. Most of you will have one foot slightly larger than the other too. As long as the discrepancy is not too large, it's perfectly normal.

Want to learn how to do sports massage for different discrepancies in your muscles for your family, friends or loved ones? Come sign up for the next course in June. http://www.physiosolutions.blogspot.sg/2013/02/sports-solutions-basic-sports-massage.html

After lunch, Marlene had the participants pair up for massage on the lower extremities.

Waaa... Nicole, what are you writing?

Special attention from Marlene

Yeah, my partner is doing a great job, he seems to indicate after taking part in the Urbanathlon in the morning before coming for the course.
Thumbs up
 Until Marlene "intervened"....

Save me......

Nicole laughing and not taking notes
As you can see, our course is fun and yet the participants are learning much. Stay tune for more updates next week.

A big thank you to our course participants who chose our course taught by Aized & Marlene.

Our aim is for our participants to be equipped with enough anatomical knowledge and practical technique to use sports massage for whatever their objective of attending this course is.

Exam Time For Sports Massage Course

The participants were stressed today. After their morning practical revision, the participants went for lunch. Most came back early to study for the written exam.Yes, you read correctly, they need to sit for a written exam and score > 70%.

Mugging for the written exam

Written exam

What's more, they have a practical exam as well in which a case study is presented to them and they then have to perform their chosen techniques and justify their rationale.

Practical exam

Marlene, Siew Lian and Aized addressing the participants to give them their feedback.

And yes, all did well.
Receiving his cert

The happy participants

Day 3 Of Sports Massage Course

Day 3 of the Sports Massage course held @Sports Solutions today. Highlight of the day was when Marlene got the participants to blindfold themselves to massage their partner, relying more on their sense of touch rather than sight.

Marlene honeing their sense of touch

Was it effective? Well, all of the participants said it helped with them gaining a better feel which allowed them  to appreciate the different techniques better.

The participants also learnt some stretching after the massage practical to enable them to be more effective.

Careful with his head

Sports Massage Course 081212

Day 1 of our Sports Massage course held @Sports Solutions. We have a diverse group of people participating in the course this time round. The morning required some serious concentration from the participants while learning something new.

Aized taught the Anatomy part of the course in the morning,
You need to know your anatomy

while Marlene started the afternoon teaching the practical.

Saw this on one of the participants.

Stayed tuned for more updates on the course. Thanks to Emily and Siew Lian for helping out.
