Obesity, Diabetes & Smoking

Earlier this month in our National Health Survey done every six years, the Health Promotion Board reported that Singaporeans are getting fatter. Obesity rates have now reached 11 percent up from 6.9 percent in 2004.

More bad news, many more Singaporeans have diabetes, from 9 percent in 2004 to 11.3 percent now. Smoking rates have gone from 12.6 percent to 14.3 percent.

This rise is across all ages, genders and ethnic groups.

This is not surprising as our current environment isn't overly harsh, we are much more sedentary and our consumer culture over produces and over consumes. We have a huge excess of calories in sugars and fats.

So all those of you taking part in the Stan Chart marathon and Phuket 70.3 triathlon this weekend good on you and keep it up.

All the best to our patients taking part from Physio & Sports Solutions.
