Teaching the Kinesio Taping Level 1-2 Course

Gino spent the last two days teaching the Kinesio Taping Level 1-2 course @Progress Healthcare (tape distributor).

Attending the course were physiotherapy students, sports science students, local and foreign physiotherapists, an occupational therapist and a sports doctor from Indonesia too.

Day 1 consists of theory and concepts of Kinesio taping along with facilitation and inhibition of muscles. Day 2 allows the participants to learn mechanical corrections, fascia and space correction and other corrective techniques.

Here are some pictures taken from the course.

Introduction To Kinesio Taping 150314

"My hand can tape better than your hand"
Probably due to the school holidays, we had a few people who signed up but could not come to the Introduction to Kinesio Taping course @ Sports Solutions Holland Village. But we still had a few athletes, cyclists, a personal trainer and 2 Physiotherapists amongst those who came for the course today.

Here are some pictures from the course.

He's Back...............

Gino Ng, one of only 3 certified Kinesio Taping Instructors (CKTI)  in Singapore is back at what he does best (other than treating patients of course) --- teaching the Kinesio Taping Level 1, 2 course.  Despite not being able to  teach the previous 2 courses (one in Singapore, 1 in KL) because of his accident, he's back in business over the past 2 days.

There was also a pregnant mummy attending the course held at Progress Healthcare (Singapore's Kinesio Tape distributor). Pregnant mummy Wang Ran, a Hong Kong trained physiotherapist is 8 months pregnant and still came for the course. She is actually paying for the course herself as the hospital she works for did not set aside any budget for her to do the course. Previously we had another pregnant mummy coming to the course before too.

Here are some pictures from day one of the course.

1 week on..

It's been a week since the accident and Gino is home and on the mend. We have been Kinesio taping since day 1 of the accident.

This is how the his Kinesio taping looks like on day 7. It has evolved over the days dependent on where Gino feels pain and where we think that it would be useful to improve fluid flow. All this to help the body with the healing process.

I am grateful that we knew how best to help the body right after an accident. He received treatment on his neck as soon as we were certain that there were no fractures in the neck and thoracic spine.

I worked on the neck bones as well as Kinesio taped all the muscles that were hurting. The muscles around Gino's neck had worked really hard to protect him during and after the impact.

Whiplash injuries are well known to worsen days after the actual accident. As Gino had received physio treatment from the evening of his accident, his neck pain disappeared on day 4 which made him able to lift his head off the pillow without any discomfort.

Now for the hardest part of this healing process for Gino...resting for the next 7 weeks!

Here's a another look at my patient, he removed the tapes this morning. After Tuesday's session, no tape was put on from Tuesday afternoon until Thursday morning.

He had some new tapes put on yesterday morning. Pretty amazing.

Kinesio Taping Session

Staff from Physio and Sports Solutions came together this morning for a Kinesio taping tutorial by Fizah at SportsSolutions. Fizah had recently gone to Adelaide, South Australia for the course and she kindly shared what she had learnt. Our staff will regularly have tutorial sessions so we can share knowledge with each other which in turn will benefit our patients as we become more skilled.

Kinesio tape became well known after last year's 2008 Beijing Olympics after the tape (which was donated by the Japanese manufacturers to many countries) was used by many athletes at the Olympics. See pictures of athletes with the Kinesio tapes below.

Some of our staff first began using Kinesio tape way back in 1999. In those days, the books were in Japanese  and we had to ask for help (from people who could read Japanese) with some of the techniques described. Good thing Fizah could teach us in English.
